Troy Hits the Road For 2015 Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field Championships

GULF SHORES, Alabama – After an outstanding season, the Troy track and field team is headed to the Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet will begin Friday and continue through Sunday evening at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala.

During Friday's heptathlon Aleeah Stigarll and Riley Schwietz will compete for the Trojan women starting Friday at 10:30 a.m. Stigarll and Schwietz best finish of the season in multi events were at the South Alabama Invitational, where Stigarll placed third and Schwietz set a new personal record with 4,262 points.Â

Meanwhile Douglas Dyer will compete for Troy's men in the decathlon beginning Friday at 10:00 a.m.

On Saturday Sydney Wright, Paige McMillan and Cameia Alexander will race in the 100-meter dash at 6:00 p.m. and the 200-meter dash at 7:30 p.m. Niata Alexander will race in the 200-meter dash, as well as the 400-meter dash at 5:30 p.m.

Wright is currently ranked third in the conference in the women's 100-meters and fourth in the 200-meter dash, while McMillan is ranked ninth in the 100-meter dash.

Cameron Rice, who is ranked in both the top 20 in the conference in the both the 200 and 400-meter dashes will represent Troy's men's team in both races on Saturday. Garrison Floyd and Jason Iles will run in the men's 110-meter hurdles.

Troy's women and men will have teams in both the 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay races on Sunday afternoon.

Troy's distance runners will compete on Sunday, with Naomi Sheppard running in the 800-meter dash at 6:25 p.m. on Sunday, and Sara Zylstra taking part in the women's 1500-meter run at 5:15 p.m.

Julia Ostendorf and Mikayla Hodges will run in the women's 5000-meter run Saturday evening at 7:10 p.m. Ostendorf is currently ranked 15th, while Hodges is ranked 20th in the 5000-meter run. Ostendorf, who is ranked fourth in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, will run in the event on Saturday at 9:00 p.m.

Freshmen Kevin Aldana and Dylan Ogburn will represent the men's team running in the 1500-meter run on Sunday. Sean Kent will compete in the men's distance runners in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase on Saturday.

In Friday's field events Elizabeth Locklier, Carissa Madson and Hayley Watts will compete in women's pole vault for the Trojans.

Corina Cox will compete in the women's discus throw for the Trojans at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Cox is currently ranked second in the conference, 16th in the NCAA East and 45th in the NCAA overall in women's discus throw.

Wortham will throw in the shot put and discus, while Taylor will also compete in the discus as well as women's hammer throw. Mariah Pennington and Riley Schwietz will throw javelin on Sunday.

Madison Cooper will represent Troy in the high jump on Saturday, while Alexus Cobbs, Aleeah Stigarll and Nesha Defoe will compete in the long jump. Both Cobbs and Defoe will also compete in the triple jump on Sunday.

B.J. Kennedy will compete in long jump for Troy's men on Saturday. Douglas Dyer, C.J. Phillips, and Sam Johnson will take part in the pole vault, Johnson will also throw men's javelin on Sunday along with Clay Coburn and Joevar James. James is currently fifth in the conference from his performance at the Jaguar Opener.

Demetris Elia and Jonnathan Valdez will represent the Trojans in the hammer throw on Sunday as well. Elia is currently ranked eighth, while Valdez is seventeenth in the conference standings.
