JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Corina Cox punched her ticket to the NCAA Nationals in Eugene, Ore., with a sixth place finish in the discus throw at the 2015 NCAA Eastern Prelimins, hosted by UNF at Hodges Stadium.
Â
"Cori did what she needed to do to advance," said director of track and field Marc Davis. "She hit a big throw early and set herself up to go to the next round. We are proud and excited for her accomplishments thus far."
Â
The sophomore hailing from Los Fresnos, Texas, native shattered her previous personal record with a 53.78-meter toss on her first attempt. Cox's throw ranks second in Troy's record books, behind just Tiphanie Baker's 54.56-meter throw in 2009.
Â
"It has been a great year," said assistant throws and weight training coach, Michelle Clayton. "Corina has stayed focused on the goal at hand and continued to work towards nationals. She went out and hit a lifetime best on her first throw and it was what she needed to advance. Now we refocus and concentrate on preparing for NCAAs!"
Â
The All-Sun Belt Second Team member will close out her season at nationals on Saturday, June 13, at 1:35 in the finals.
