Troy Hosts Kennesaw State in Midweek Action

TROY, Alabama – The Troy University baseball team returns home from a Sun Belt Conference series win over Appalachian State to host Kennesaw State on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Riddle-Pace Field. Live video, audio and stats can be found on TroyTrojans.com. WTBF 94.7 FM will carry the radio broadcast.
The Trojans (17-16) took two-of-three games from Appalachian State over the weekend and have now won three-of-four conference series this season. Troy enters the week seventh in the conference standings but are just two games out of second.
Nick Masonia enters the week swinging a hot bat with a .412 average over the last five games. TJ Binder has emerged as a left-handed threat for the Trojans over the last 10 contests batting .385 with five walks and an on-base percentage just south of .500.
Troy swiped 14 bases over the weekend including five from Clay Holcomb. The senior leads the Sun Belt Conference with 18 stolen bases and has 65 for his career – one shy of tying Warren Arrington for fifth-most in Troy history.
Left-handed senior Ben Tidwell is slated to get the start on the mound for the Trojans. In his last outing, Tidwell (0-0, 5-01) pitched seven innings against Alabama State on March 31. He allowed two runs on eight hits and struck out three.
Kennesaw State advanced to an NCAA Super Regional last season falling to Louisville. The team has struggled to find any consistency in 2015 with a 15-16 record and was swept by Stetson over the weekend.
Taylor Allum paces the Owls at offensively with a .373 average. Kal Simmons is a power threat with eight home runs and 27 RBIs.
Troy and Kennesaw State haven't played since 2010 and the Trojans own a 22-1 all-time series advantage including a 17-0 mark at Riddle-Pace Field. Troy's lone loss in the series came in 2007, a 1-0 decision in Kennesaw.
