Troy Travels To Georgia Southern for Sun Belt Series

TROY, Alabama – The Troy softball team travels to Statesboro, Ga., for a three game series against Georgia Southern at Eagle Field with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. CT and the series finale on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Troy (26-19, 8-7 Sun Belt), who clinched a spot in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with a win over Texas State, is led by Hannah Day who is batting .321 with nine doubles, two triples, five home runs and 35 RBIs.

The Trojans have hit 61 doubles, which is the fourth most in the conference. Khadija Neely leads the Trojans with 12 doubles.

Troy has hit 43 home runs, which is 13 more than it hit all last season. The 43 home runs ranks fourth in the Sun Belt. Becca Hartley leads the team in home runs with nine.

Jaycee Affeldt leads the Trojans pitching staff with a 2.69 ERA. Affeldt has 112 strikeouts in 140.1 innings of work.

Michelle Phelps has been swinging a hot bat lately batting .389 with four doubles and two home runs in the last five games. Phelps also has six RBIs and a .944 slugging percentage in the last five games.

In conference play, Ashley Rainey is batting .308 with two doubles, one triple, three home runs and eight RBIs. Rainey is slugging .808 when facing conference opponents.

Georgia Southern (12-29, 4-14 Sun Belt) comes in to the series after being swept by South Alabama in a three game series. Emily Snider leads the Eagles offensively, batting .301 with 12 doubles and one triple. She has driven in 18 RBIs and hit three home runs this season.

The Trojans lead the all-time series with Georgia Southern, 14-8. Troy has an 8-3 record when facing the Eagles on the road. The two teams faced each other last year, once in Gainesville, Fla., and the other two in Statesboro, Ga. Georgia Southern won the game in Gainesville and the two teams split in Statesboro.
