Trang Huynh Earns Player of the Year, Six Other From Troy Tennis Named All-Sun Belt

NEW ORLEANS – Troy women's tennis junior Trang Huynh was named the Sun Belt Player of the Year and six other Troy student-athletes earned All-Sun Belt honors, the league office announced on Thursday night.
In addition to being named the Player of the Year, Huynh also earned first team All-Sun Belt singles honors. She and doubles partner junior Anja Cosovic earned first team All-Sun Belt doubles honors.
The Troy men's tennis team had five student-athletes earn all-conference honors, including senior Gabriel Dias and sophomore Hassan Ndayishimye who both earned first team All-Sun Belt singles honors. Freshman Andy Lau and junior Giovani Samaha were named second team All-Sun Belt singles while Lau and sophomore Pablo Moreno earned second team All-Sun Belt doubles honors.
Huynh is the first Troy women's tennis player in the program's Division I history to be named conference player of the year. She posted a 15-3 singles record this season, including a current streak of 12 straight matches, all on court No. 1. The Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, native also posted a 14-2 record in doubles play. Huynh's first team All-Sun Belt singles award is her second in as many seasons.
Huynh and Cosovic went 11-1 together in doubles play and earned first team All-Sun Belt doubles honors for the second straight season.
After an 8-17 record last season, the Troy men's tennis team made a quick turn around and posted a 23-6 this season, led by five players who earned their way onto the All-Sun Belt team.
Dias and Ndayishimye both led the way with first team All-Sun Belt singles honors. Dias posted a 14-5 record, including a 10-4 mark at No. 1, and won seven straight matches to close the regular season. The first team All-Sun Belt singles selection is the second straight for Dias. Ndayishimye posted a 20-5 record, including a 14-3 mark at No. 2, and was the only Sun Belt player to win 20 singles matches this spring.
Two newcomers in Lau and Samaha both earned second team All-Sun Belt singles honors. Lau posted a 13-13 record, including a 12-8 mark at No. 3, as a freshman. Samaha went 17-3, including a 10-2 mark at No. 5, and enters the Sun Belt Championships having won 10 straight matches.
Lau and Moreno earned second team All-Sun Belt doubles after posting a 5-6 mark that including a 4-5 record at No. 1 doubles.
Both teams open play at the Sun Belt Championships this weekend at City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans. The Troy women, the tournament's No. 6 seed, first take on UT Arlington at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. The Troy men, the tournament's No. 1 seed, received a bye into Saturday's semifinal and will take on either Georgia Southern or UL Lafayette at 3 p.m.
