Trojan Women Win USA Invitational and Pick up Five Individual Wins

MOBILE, Alabama – The Trojan women's track and field team put on show at the USA Invitational this weekend, leaving with a first place overall team win, three 1-2 sweeps, and five first place finishes.

The team dominated the women's competition winning with 172 points, nearly 30 points ahead of the runner-up hosting team, South Alabama. Freshman standout Sydney Wright assisted the Trojans in winning 28 of the points through two individual events and a team relay.

Wright not only won the women's 100-meter dash on Saturday, and she was also a part of the Trojan tandem that took first and second in the 200-meter dash. Wright crossed the finish line for a first place finish while Paige McMillan was right behind her placing second.

Another Trojan freshman, Niata Alexander, picked up a win, 10 team points, and also crushed a previous personal record with a time of 56.83 seconds in the women's 400-meter dash. Dallas Worthy assisted Alexander in the event sweep, placing second with a time of 57.43 seconds.

Apart from their individual successes, Worthy, McMillan, Wright and N. Alexander also worked together to pick up a runner-up finish in the women's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:51.43.

In the women's 4x100 relay the team of Cameia Alexander, Alexus Cobbs, McMillan and Wright also placed second, finishing in 47.06 seconds.

Distance runners Julia Ostendorf and Katrina Bokenfohr picked up the third sweep of the day for the Trojan women, winning first and second, respectively, in the women's 3000-meter run. Ostendorf finished with a time of 10:23.09 for 10 team points, while Bokenfohr finished right behind her.Â

Ostendorf also set a new personal record in the women's 1500-meter run with a time of 4:50.85 for a runner-up finish. Meanwhile, Sara Zylstra placed fifth with a 5:01.91 finish in the event.

Thrower Corina Cox picked up the fifth win for the team on Saturday in the women's discus contest with a 52.24-meter toss. Freshman Jaevyn Wortham set a new personal-record in the event with a throw of 46.48-meters.

Other notable women finishers are Alexus Cobbs who won and set a new personal record in Friday's triple-jump contest and placed third in Saturday's long jump competition. Lacey Marcus placed fourth in women's 100-meter hurdles.

Troy's men's team picked up two runner-up finishes on Saturday. Sophomore Sean Kent shattered his personal record in the men's 3000-meter run with a time of 9:08.86 and a second place finish. Meanwhile, Cameron Rice placed second in the men's 200-meter dash.

Dylan Ogburn set a new personal record in the men's 1500-meter run, while Demetris Elia placed fifth in the men's hammer throw with a 55.14-meter toss.

The Trojans head to Auburn next weekend to compete in the War Eagle Invitational hosted by Auburn University on April 17 and 18.
