Troy Drops Marathon Sun Belt Match

MOBILE, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis fought for over four hours, but in the end fell to Georgia Southern, 4-3, at the Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts in Mobile, Ala., on Saturday.
Troy (7-6, 1-2) cruised to a doubles point sweep, dropping just two combined games. Trang Huynh and Anja Cosovic won at No. 1 doubles, 8-1, to move to 11-1 on the season. Linnea Skymberg and Jiayuan Xue won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles and Sanae Ohta and Brooke Durden won at No. 3, 8-1, to close the point.
The Trojans quickly took a 3-0 lead in singles play as Huynh and Xue won their singles matches. Huynh first won at No. 1, 6-3, 6-2, over Jordana Klein to put Troy up 2-0. Xue then won at No. 4 over Giulia Riepe, 6-3, 6-3, to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead.
Georgia Southern (9-3, 3-0), however, responded with four wins, including three in three sets. The Eagles first won in straight sets at No. 5 singles to get on the board. Then, at No. 2 and No. 3, after Troy had won opening sets, the Eagles went on to come back and win each second and third set to tie the score, 3-3.
The match came down to court No. 6 where Troy's Margot De Haan had already forced a third set after falling in the first. Georgia Southern, however, went on to win, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, to take the match in just under 4.5 hours.
The Trojans return to the courts on Sunday when they remain in Mobile to take on undefeated South Alabama at 2 p.m.
