Freshmen Impress as Troy Track and Field Wraps up CCU Invitational

CONWAY, S.C. – Sydney Wright highlighted the final day of the Coach "O" Coastal Carolina Invitational for the Troy track and field team on Saturday, as the freshman picked up her second collegiate win for the Trojans.

Wright, a Columbus, Ga., native, earned herself a first place finish in the 200-meter dash as she set a new personal record, clocking in at 24.76 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, which she won last week at the Jaguar Opener, Wright earned a top-3 finish, placing third with a time of 11.95 seconds.

Freshman Javeyn Wortham also posted impressive marks for the Trojans in the final day of competition as she set a new personal record. Wortham earned herself a new personal record in the discus, as she threw for 44.68 meters. Wortham also earned a top-10 finish in the shot put, with a 12.07-meter throw.

In the 100-m hurdle, sophomore Riley Schweitz shaved seconds off her previous personal record, as she took seventh with a 15:05 second time.

In the women's field events, Corina Cox had a strong showing in the discus and shot put events. Cox threw for 47.42-meters in the discus, earning her a second place finish. In the shot put, the Los Fresnos, Texas, native, posted a 12.69m throw, which placed seventh.

Competing in the women's 4x400m relay was Paige McMillian, Wright, Cameia Alexander and Dallas Worthy. The quartet took third place.
Nesha DeFoe earned a third place finish in the long jump as she posted a 5.25m mark. In the triple jump, the sophomore earned herself a fifth place finish with a 11-meter score.

In the 200-meter dash, Alexander and Worthy earned top-10 finished with times of 25.64 and 25.69 seconds, earning ninth and 10th place, respectively.

Other notable top-10 finished on the women's side were Julia Ostendorf, McMillian, and Erin Woods. Ostendorf earned a seventh place finish in the 1,500m run, with a time of 4.53:23. McMillian earned 10th place in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 12.29 seconds. Erin Woods took 10th place in the triple jump, as she leaped 10.10 meters.

On the men's side, Douglas Dyer and Samuel Johnson led Troy in the field events. Dyer earned an eighth place finish in the pole vault, while Johnson placed 10th.

Cameron Rice placed 10th in the 400-meter dash for the Trojans, with a time of 49.6 seconds.

Next week, the Trojans head to the Alabama Relays on March 19th to March 21st, in Tuscaloosa.
