No. 35 Troy Opens Play at Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Paced by a 3-under from Jake Tucker, the 35th-ranked Troy men's golf team fired a 1-over par 289 in the opening round of the Seminole Intercollegiate at the Southwood Golf Club on Friday.
The Trojans sit tied for 11th place in the field of 17, but find themselves just five shots out of the top five behind No. 1 Florida State. Troy is just three shots back No. 6 South Florida, two shots behind No. 7 Georgia Tech and four shots back of No. 8 South Carolina.
Tucker started with birdies on two of his first three holes as the Trojans started on the back nine. He eventually made the turn at 1-over par before sinking birdies on No. 2 and No. 7 to finish with a 69 on the day and tied for sixth place overall.
Jared Bettcher, who is tied for 35th, made the turn at 2-under after a trio of birdies around a bogey on the back nine. However, a double-bogey on No. 2 and bogey on No. 9 coupled with a birdie on No. 2 pushed his card to an even 72 for the day.
Luke Moser finished strong as he played the front nine at 1-under par to finish the day tied for 45th place. Moser made the turn at 2-over after three bogeys in his first seven holes. Tolver Dozier picked up a pair of birdies in his round and finished tied for 64th after shooting a 75, while Phillip Brennan carded a 76 and is tied for 69th place.
Playing as an individual, Clayton Vannoy finished his day tied for 20th place after a strong front nine. Vannoy carded three birdies after making the turn at 2-over and finished the day with a 1-under 71.
Troy and Virginia will be paired with the individuals for Saturday's second round; the grouping will open on the back nine and will tee off at 9:10 (CDT).
