Troy Baseball Suffers Setback at Jacksonville State

The Gamecocks (7-6) jumped on Troy pitchers early and never looked back. JSU scored four runs in the first and ran Trojan starter Cody Hughes from the game after recording just one out. Jacksonville State exploded for eight runs in the third and six more in the fourth.
Troy (7-10) got on the board in the top of the third when Clay Holcomb drove in Bert Givens with a ground ball. Givens had doubled to start the inning. Trevin Hall doubled to lead off the fourth and scored on a ground ball from David Hall. In the sixth, David Hall hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field.
The Trojans used six pitchers in the contest and allowed 17 hits. The 18 runs allowed are the most by a Troy team since Auburn scored 23 in 2009. The loss was the eighth consecutive for the Trojans.
Troy will host Georgia Southern in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series over the weekend. The series is set to start Friday at 6 p.m. at Riddle-Pace Field.
