Trojans Wrap Up Indoor Season at 2015 Sun Belt Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Troy University track and field team closed out the last meet of the indoor season at the 2015 Sun Belt Indoor Championships claiming ninth place.

"The women competed hard over the past two days," said director of track and field Marc Davis. "We had many personal bests and that's what we are looking for at this time of the season. We are a very young team with a very bright future."

On the first day of competition Niata Alexander and Sydney Wright both set personal records and qualified for the final races in the 400-meter dash and 60-meter dash, respectively.

In the final races, Alexander brought home a third place overall finish in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 55.67 seconds. Wright placed eighth in the 60-meter dash with a final time of 7.74 seconds.

Aleeah Stigarll and Riley Schwietz competed in the women's pentathlon on Tuesday. Stigarll placed 7th overall accumulating a personal-best 3,271 points in the multi-event, whilst setting personal records in the shot put and 800-meter run, with a 10.44-meter throw and a 2:40.84 finish. Schwietz placed 10th overall, scoring a personal-best 2,866 points, earning a personal record in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 2:38.13.

Sara Zylstra competed in the 1 mile run, crossing the finish line with a 5:15.01 finish for a new personal record. Julia Ostendorf finished the 5000-meter run in 18:04.53.

The women's 4x400-meter relay closed out the final day of competition, and Troy's team of Dallas Worthy, Wright, Sierra King and Paige McMillian took seventh with a time of 3:56.82.

The Trojans will open up the outdoor season on March 6th at the South Alabama Jaguar Opener.
