Troy Travels to Alabama State for Doubleheader

TROY, Alabama – The Troy softball team travels to Montgomery, Ala., Tuesday to face Alabama State at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.

The Trojans (7-7) went 4-1 last weekend at the Trojan Invitational, with three of its four wins ending in walk-offs. Troy defeated Evansville and Northern Illinois, while defeating UConn twice in its final home tournament of the season.

Amanda Winters led the Trojans at the plate during the Trojan Invitational as she went 7-for-15 (.467) with a pair of doubles, a triple, a home run and six RBIs. Winters was clutch in both victories over UConn as she sent the first game to extra-innings with a game-tying single in the bottom of the seventh inning and ended the second game with a walk-off homer.

Troy enters the mid-week tilt at Alabama State with five players batting over the .300 mark through the first 14 games of the season. Kate Benton leads the way with her .395 batting average and .465 on-base percentage, while Michelle Phelps and Hannah Day are both batting .333 on the year. Day leads the Trojans with six extra-base hits and carries a seven-game hit streak into Tuesday's doubleheader.

Jaycee Affeldt (4-2, 4.85) picked all four wins in the circle for Troy over the weekend and has struck out 28 batters in 30.1 innings of work this season.

After opening the season with three early wins, Alabama State (3-10) has lost five straight games coming into Tuesday's contests. Carly Evans leads the Hornets' offensive attack with a .432 batting average to go along with three doubles, a pair of triples, three home runs and 17 RBIs.

Troy leads the series with Alabama State 18-0, including a 9-1 victory the last time they met back in 2011. The two teams will open the Stetson Invitational against each other on Friday at 10 a.m.
