Dozier Leads No. 41 Troy on Opening Day of Bayou City Collegiate Championship

HUMBLE, Texas – Tolver Dozier carded three birdies and shot a 1-under 71 to lead No. 41 Troy in the opening round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at the Golf Club of Houston on Friday; Dozier is tied for second and the Trojans are tied for fifth in the field of 15.
The teams began round two of the tournament immediately following the opening round due to the threat of bad weather over the weekend. The second round was not finished Friday and scores were not made available.
The Trojans were solid on the par 3s as they played the holes to a tune of 2-under as a team, while the next closest team was 1-over. However, Troy struggled on the par 5s as they finished 5-over for the opening round. Troy carded the second most birdies on the day with 15, which was just one behind Charlotte.
Dozier finished strong as he birdied No. 16 and No. 17 to move to 1-under for the day. He opened his round with a double-bogey before pulling to within one of par with a birdie on No. 7.
Phillip Brennan also had an eventful end to his opening round as he carded birdies on No. 13, No. 14 and No. 16, but was saddled with a triple-bogey on the par 5 No. 15. Brennan, who is tied for 20th, added a birdie around a pair of bogeys on the front nine and finished his round at 1-over.
Luke Moser and Jake Tucker each shot a 75 in the opening round as each carded three birdies and are tied for 40th place. Jared Bettcher struggled on the front nine as he made the turn at 8-over, but rebounded with a pair of birdies to finish even par on the back nine and 8-over for the day.
The teams will return to the course at 7:30 a.m. Saturday to finish the second round before playing the third and final round that afternoon.
