Troy Men’s Hoops Returns Home, Faces Rival South Alabama

TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's basketball returns to the friendly confines of Trojan Arena Thursday night as it faces rival South Alabama. Tip off between the Trojans and Jaguars is slated for 7:30 p.m., following the conclusion of the women's game, which tips at 5:15. Troy faculty and staff can receive two free general admission tickets to the game by showing their school ID at the door.

In its latest outing, Troy (9-13, 4-9 SBC) fell to Appalachian State, 65-62. Four Trojans tallied double figures as they were led by Musa Abdul-Aleem who paced Troy with 17 points. Kevin Thomas earned his 12th career double-double with 16 points, shooting 7-of-9 from the floor, while reeling in a game-high 11 rebounds, six of which were on the offensive end of the court. John Walton III and Wesley Person also scored in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Prior to the loss, Troy won back-to-back games at UT Arlington and at Arkansas State. Troy's previous three games have been decided by an average of 4.0 points.
Person is fourth amongst freshmen in the nation in 3-pointers made per game. He is averaging, 2.68, a team-best, while also shooting the fourth-best percentage from long range. Person's 3-point field goal percentage, 37.8 percent, ranks 61st overall in the country and his trey's per game earns him the 46th best throughout the NCAA.
Thomas ranks first in the Sun Belt and 22nd in the nation, averaging 3.55 offensive boards per contest. He has earned eight double-doubles on the year, which ranks third in the conference.
South Alabama (7-17, 5-8 SBC) is looking to snap a three-game losing skid. Prior to Thursday's game, the Jaguars fell to Georgia State, 65-54, at home, as the Jaguars couldn't stave off a hot-shooting Panthers squad. The Jaguars were cold from the floor as they shot a season-low 27.8 percent, including 25.9 percent in the second half.
Ken Williams leads the Jags on the offensive end of the court, as he averages 14.9 points per contest. Taishaun Johnson and Dionte Ferguson also average double-figure points with 12.8 and 11.2, respectively. Abdul Lewis leads South Alabama on the glass, reeling in 6.7 boards per game. Ferguson is right behind him, averaging 6.6 rebounds per contest.
The Trojans trail in the all-time series against the Jaguars, 16-7. In Troy, South Alabama holds a 6-3 advantage. Last year, the Trojans and Jaguars split the series with each home team winning.
Troy continues its homestand as it welcomes UL Lafayette to Trojan Arena on Saturday, for a Valentine's Day matchup. Tip off between the Trojans and Ragin' Cajuns is set for 4:15 p.m.
