Troy Soccer Looks for Revenge Against Georgia State at Sun Belt Tournament

EMERSON, Georgia – The Troy soccer team will look to get revenge as they play host No. 6 Georgia State on Friday at 6 p.m. CT at LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson, Ga., in the second round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

Troy (14-4-1, 6-2-1 Sun Belt) was the only team to complete a shutout in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as they defeated Georgia Southern 3-0 on Wednesday.

The Trojan defense has been stellar all year and ranks 11th nationally with an .868 save percentage. Troy is also within the top 30 nationally in goals against average with a 0.61, which is 22nd and in shutout percentage with a .526, which ranks 28th.

Sophomore goalkeeper Mikki Lewis is first in the conference and 26th nationally with a 0.61 goals against average. She also ranks first in the conference and 13th nationally with a 0.873 save percentage.

Seniors Alissa Jones and Chelsey Williams are both tied for the team leader in goals scored with six and assists with five, which equal out to 17 points. The two have combined for 111 shots and have landed 58 on goal. Jones is second in the conference averaging 2.16 shots on goal per game, which ranks 23rd nationally.

Troy has outscored its opponents 34-12 and has 280 shots on the year, while its opponents only have 168.

Georgia State (11-5-3, 4-4-1 Sun Belt) defeated Troy earlier this season in Atlanta. It was the first time the Trojans had gone into overtime all season and eventually fell 2-1 in the second overtime.
