Troy Soccer Opens Sun Belt Conference Tournament Against Georgia Southern

TROY, Alabama – The Troy soccer team will take on the No. 7 seed Georgia Southern on Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT at LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson, Ga., for the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

The Sun Belt Conference Tournament matches have been moved to LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson, Ga., due to the tremendous amount of rain that has fallen in the Atlanta area and rough field conditions.

The Trojans (13-4-1, 6-2-1 Sun Belt) finished the regular season with a 0-0 double overtime tie against Little Rock.

Senior Chelsey Williams leads the Trojans with 17 points, six goals and five assists. Alissa Jones, another senior, comes in with 16 points, six goals and four assists. The Trojan offense has outscored its opponents 31-12 and outshot them 231-163 for the year.

Mikki Lewis leads the Trojan defense, which has only allowed 12 goals this season and 163 shots. Lewis leads the Sun Belt with nine shutouts this season. The Trojan defense is on pace to set the single-season records for the lowest goals allowed, lowest goals against average, highest save percentage and fewest losses.

Georgia Southern (6-10-2, 2-7-1 Sun Belt) comes in as the No. 7 seed and closed out the regular season with a 1-3 loss at Texas State.

Troy and Georgia Southern have played once this season and the Trojans came away with a 1-0 win on the road. The Trojans lead the all-time series 2-1 over Georgia Southern. This is the first time both teams have met in the postseason.

Troy made it to the championship game in the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Tournament, which is the best postseason finish for the Trojans in program history.
