BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The 2015 Troy University track and field season will kick off on Friday at the UAB Blazer Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex Arena. The Trojans will visit the Birmingham Crossplex at least four times on their journey to the Sun Belt Championship.
Â
The two-day meet will commence on Friday with the women's 60-meter dash at 2:30 p.m. and wrap up on Saturday following the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays at 4:15 p.m.
Â
More than 20 teams will be participating, highlighted by the SEC's Florida and Mississippi State. The Gators enter the weekend ranked No. 1 by the USTFCCCA in both the men's and women's polls, while the Bulldogs' women's team is ranked No. 20 in the nation.
Â
Notable returners for the Troy women include Julia Ostendorf and Dallas Worthy. Ostendorf, who set several personal and Troy University records during the 2014 season, will compete in the 5000-meter run on Friday. Worthy finished fourth in last year's 400-meter dash at the Sun Belt Championships, and will race in Saturday's 400-meter dash.
Â
Myles Charley and Zach Douglas both advanced to the 2014 NCAA East Preliminaries. Charley will compete in long jump and triple jump for the Trojans while Douglas will throw in the weight throw on Friday and shot put on Saturday, the event in which he holds a Troy outdoor record. In 2014, Douglas earned the No. 1 spot in the Trojan record books when he through the shot put 17.81 meters.
Â
This will mark the first meet for Troy's new director of track and field, Marc Davis.
