Troy Shuts Out Alabama State

MONTGOMERY, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Friday as it cruised past Alabama State, 7-0, on the road at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.
Troy (1-2) dropped just a combined five games as it won its second straight doubles point. Trang Huynh and Anja Cosovic remained perfect on the season at No. 1 doubles. Jiayuan Xue made her season debut as she paired with Sanae Ohta to win at No. 2 doubles. Margot De Haan and Julia Albuquerque rounded out the lineup at No. 3 doubles.
The Trojans quickly wrapped up the match in singles play as Xue, also making her singles season debut, was the first off the court with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Albuquerque was the next to win as she took a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 6 singles.
Cosovic then clinched the match at No. 3 singles where she won 6-2, 6-0. Linnea Skymberg (No. 5), Ohta (No. 1) and Huynh (No. 2) then finished, respectively, to complete the shutout. Ohta moved to 3-0 in singles play on the season.
Complete results are below. The Trojans return to the court next weekend when they travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to take on UNC Wilmington and North Florida.
