Trojans Pick up Win, Set New Personal Records at UNC Open

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Troy track and field team left the Art and Linda Maillet UNC Open on Saturday with the first win of the season and several top five finishes.

Niata Alexander picked up her first collegiate win in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 56.71. In her freshman campaign, Alexander has picked up two top five finishes in as many meets.

Sydney Wright, Cameia Alexander and Sierra King all saw their personal records fall in the 60-meter dash on Saturday. In the preliminary Wright qualified for the final with a time of 7.77 seconds, however the final race not only gave her a third place finish, but a new personal best of 7.74 seconds as well. Alexander and King finished in 7.92 seconds and 8.13 seconds, respectively.

In the 3000-meter run, Julia Ostendorf brought home a second place finish with a time of 10:23.11, just barely three seconds shy of the leader. Mikayla Hodges picked up a seventh place finish with a time of 10:42.90. Both Ostendorf and Hodges set a new personal record in the 3000-meter run.

Cameia Alexander and Alexus Cobbs both set new season bests in their respective events. Alexander placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 26.04 seconds. Meanwhile, Cobbs' 5.36-meter performance in the long jump also picked up fifth place.

Corina Cox finished the shot put competition in third place with a 13.30-meter throw.
Â
Allison Taylor and Jaevyn Wortham also took part in shot put and weight throw. Taylor placed seventh in weight throw and eighth in shot put, while Wortham was right behind with an eighth place finish in weight throw and ninth in shot.

The team of Niata Alexander, Cobbs, Paige McMillian, and Dallas Worthy placed fifth in the women's 4x400 relay, finishing in 4:08.35.

The Trojans will head to the Birmingham Crossplex next weekend for the UAB Vulcan Invitational on Friday and Saturday, January 23rd and 24th.
