Troy Falls at No. 13 Florida, Dias Defeats Ranked Gator

GAINESVILLE, Florida – The Troy men's tennis team opened its 2015 spring season with a close, 5-2 loss at No. 13 Florida on Friday afternoon.Â

Gabriel Dias headlined the showing for Troy (0-1) as he defeated Florida's Maxx Lipman, the 34th-ranked singles player in the nation, 7-6 (1), 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Dias picked up one of Troy's points while newcomer Hassan Ndayishimye picked up the other with a win at No. 3 singles.

Ndayishimye defeated Florida's Gordon Watson in three sets, 7-6 (5), 3-6, 1-0 (12-10). Watson entered as the 13th-ranked played in the ITA Southeast Region singles rankings.

Giovani Samaha also had a good showing for Troy as he fell in three sets at No. 6 singles to Jordan Belga, 6-7 (2), 6-3, 1-0 (10-8). Florida (2-0) also got wins at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles in addition to a sweep of the doubles point.

Troy has a quick turnaround as it travels to Tallahassee, Fla., to take on both Florida A&M and No. 35 Florida State on Saturday.
