Trojans Wrap Up 2015 Blazer Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Trojan indoor track and field team wrapped up their first meet of the 2015 season at the UAB Blazer Invitational with several impressive finishes.
Â
Freshman Niata Alexander picked up the top two finishes for the Trojan women on Saturday. In the 400-meter dash, Alexander placed first in her heat, and sixth overall with a time of 56.17 seconds. Later in the day she once again swept her heat and picked up a fourth place finish in the women's 200-meter dash with a 24.87 second performance.

Naomi Sheppard finished the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.16 for a 14th place finish, her second top-15 finish of the weekend. Erika Kulp and Alyssa Staubach finished the 800-meters in 2:27.78 and 2:29.57, respectively.

In women's shot put, Corina Cox started her 2015 campaign with a new personal record and 9th place finish with a 13.68-meter throw.

Both the men's and women's 4x400 relay teams placed in the top ten of their first meet of the season. The women's team of Alexander, Paige McMillian, Alexus Cobbs and Dallas Worthy finished ninth with a time of 3:57.63. Meanwhile, the men's team composed of Chaun Lynn, Zach Calhoun, Tyrell Moore and Cameron Rice  placed eighth in 3:21.78.

Two Trojans picked up top-ten finishes in the men's 3000-meter run. Dylan Ogburn placed fourth with a time of 9:19.29, while Tim Bulger's 9:43.22 finish picked up seventh place.

In men's field events, Zach Douglas placed third in shot put with a 15.69-meter throw. On Friday, he placed fifth in men's weight throw. Myles Charley placed fifth in men's long jump with a 7.15 meter performance.

The Trojans will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. next weekend for the UNC Open.
