Bustamante Advances at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Oklahoma & PACIFIC PALISADES, California – The Troy men's and women's tennis teams both competed at the prestigious ITA All-American Championships on Saturday. Both sides competed in the pre-qualifying singles draw, with Daniel Bustamante being the lone Trojan to win twice and advance to Sunday's competition.
The Troy men sent four student-athletes to the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships, which was played the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Bustamante won his first round match, defeating Jacob Rother of UTSA, 6-4, 6-3. He then won his second round match, beating Dave Bacalla of Valparaiso, 6-3, 6-2. Bustamante will now take on Anthony Delcore of Wake Forest in the third round at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. The junior is two wins away from advancing into the qualifying draw.
Giovani Samaha, Pablo Moreno and Gabriel Sciacca Dias all dropped first round matches, falling to players from South Florida, North Florida and Ohio State, respectively.
All of the Trojans competed in the 256-player pre-qualifying draw. Sixteen players will advance on Sunday into the qualifying draw. Samaha, Moreno and Dias will all play in the pre-qualifying consolation draw on Sunday.
The Troy women had one student-athlete in the pre-qualifying singles draw at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships, which was played at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
Troy's Trang Huynh, the 107th-ranked player in the nation, dropped her first round match to Borislava Botusharova of Old Dominion, 6-4, 6-0. On Sunday, eight players will advance out of the 64-player bracket into the qualifying draw.
However, the tournament is not over for Huynh as she and doubles partner Anja Cosovic will take part in the doubles qualifying draw, which begins on Tuesday. Huynh and Cosovic are the 50th-ranked doubles team in the nation. They will be one of 32 teams in the qualifying draw with four spots in the main draw on the line.
