PACIFIC PALISADES, California – Anja Cosovic and Trang Huynh of the Troy women's tennis team dropped their opening doubles match of the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships on Tuesday at the Riviera Tennis Club.
Troy's duo, the 50th-ranked doubles pair in the nation, fell to Peggy Porter and Josie Kuhlman of Florida, 6-0, 7-6 (3). The match was the first for both sides in the 32-team qualifying round. Four teams will advance on Wednesday to the main draw.
Florida's pair of true freshmen advanced through last weekend's pre-qualifying draw to make it to this week's qualifying round. Troy's pair of juniors advanced straight to the qualifying round due to their national ranking.
Cosovic and Huynh will play in the consolation draw on Wednesday where they will take on Sophie Watts and Anneka Watts of Fresno State, the 52nd-ranked doubles team in the nation. Following that, the Trojans next take to the courts on Friday, October 10, when they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships.
