Men’s Golf Opens Season with Fourth-Place Finish at The Invitational at Kiawah; Bettcher Ties for Third

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Troy men's golf team moved up a spot on the leaderboard into fourth place following Sunday's final round of The Invitational at Kiawah. Sophomore Jared Bettcher led the Trojans as he tied for third place overall after an ever-par round Sunday.
The Trojans leapfrogged Kentucky in the final team standings and finished only behind South Florida, who won with a tournament with a record 14-under 850, Georgia State and Georgia Southern. South Florida's Chase Koepka won the individual title with an 8-uner 208.
Bettcher split three birdies around three bogeys to finish the day with a 72. He finished 6-under for the weekend on the par 5s and carded 14 birdies over the three rounds. Bettcher's third-place finish is the best in his career; his previous low was a tie for fifth at last year's Tiger Invitational.
Tolver Dozier and Luke Moser wrapped up the weekend tied for 25th following a 74 and 76, respectively, on Sunday. Jake Tucker turned in his best round of the weekend with a 1-over 73 during the final round to move into a tie for 33rd while Phillip Brennan shot a 4-over and tied for 41st place.
Troy returns to action September 28-29 at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational hosted by Ohio State.
