TROY, Ala. – The Troy University soccer will open the 2014 season on the road against LSU on Friday at the LSU soccer stadium.
Â
The Trojans will ring in the Jason Hamilton era at 7 p.m. in Baton Rouge. Live stats will be available at lsusports.net.
Â
Troy returns 13 players, seven starters including junior Jasmine Fahrnbauer, who led the squad with four assists. Fahrnbauer along with Payton Donley and Kailani Decock have been named Troy's captains for the upcoming season.
Â
"Jasmine, Payton and Kailani have been great leaders and have shown great work ethic on and off the field," Hamilton said. "We have a good mix of young players and well as experience. Our three captains will do a great job of bringing them all together and helping the team gel as the season goes along."
Â
Also making their way back onto the pitch for the Trojans are Alissa Jones and Chelsey Williams. Both sat out last season but have a knack for scoring goals. Jones found the back of the net seven times in 2011 while Williams has bagged 17 goals in two seasons with Troy.
Â
The Trojans finished the 2013 season with an 8-10-1 record including a 4-3-1 mark in Sun Belt Conference play; it marked the second winning conference record since the program joined the Sun Belt in 2005.
Â
LSU enters the season following a 9-9-2 campaign a year ago. The Tigers are four-time Southeastern Conference Western Division champions and made NCAA tournament appearances in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011.
