"We will be resting athletes who are already in a solid qualifying place for the first round of the NCAA Regional," head coach Jill Lancaster said. "Athletes looking to secure a spot with improvements are excited about the talent that will be in the meet."
Throwers Demetris Elia and Hayes Grissom are among the athletes that will be participating over the weekend. Elia will be competing in the men's hammer throw at noon on Friday. Over the season, Elia has shown consistent progress and put up his best throw of 57.79-meters at Troy's Coach "O" Invitational.
Hayes Grissom will throw javelin for the Trojan men. Grissom won two events this season, and had his best performance with a 64.17-meter throw at the Alabama Relays.
Julia Ostendorf will run in the 3000-meter steeplechase later Friday night. Ostendorf set a new personal best of 10:51.18 in the event at the conference championships. The time also set a new Troy record in the event.
The team of Daniel Dent, Jordan Landburg, Philip Pritchett and Ben Martin will race in the men's 4x100-meter relay at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The meet will be a great last chance for the athletes to qualify for the NCAA East Regional.
"The short travel time to a great competition and facility will provide these athletes with every opportunity to improve," said Lancaster.
Troy's athletes that already have solid NCAA standings include a freshman and two sophomores. In her first year of collegiate competition Corina Cox is ranked 19th in discus in the NCAA East standings and holds a second place ranking in the U-20 Collegiate standings.
Â
Zach Douglas is ranked 36th in men's shot put. Douglas won both the shot put and discus competitions at the Coach "O" Invitational in April.
Â
Myles Charley is currently ranked in two events. His 15.21-meter performance at the Sun Belt Championships earned him a 36th place finish in the men's triple jump, and he is also ranked 42nd in the men's long jump.
Â
Martin, a junior, is ranked fourth in the men's 100-meter and 18th in the 200-meter dash in the NCAA East, while Landburg, a senior, is ranked 18th in the 400-meters and 35th in the 200-meter dash.
