Final Results
WEST POINT, Miss. – Phillip Brennan tied for fifth and Jared Bettcher shot a 3-under to pace Troy on the final day of the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship on Tuesday at the Old Waverly Golf Club. The Trojans tied for ninth place in the 15-team field, but secured a victory over No. 37 Memphis.
Brennan and Bettcher both had a pair of under par rounds in the event as Brennan opened with a 2-under and a 4-under, while Bettcher closed out the tournament with a 2-under and a 3-under.
Bettcher was the hottest golfer on the course at the end of the day on Tuesday as he sunk birdies on four of his final eight holes. After shooting an 8-over in the first round, Bettcher had the third best final 36 holes in the field and moved into a tie for 17th place overall.
Mississippi State rebounded from a rough start to win the team title by a shot over Cincinnati, while the Bulldogs' Barrett Edens and Austin Peay's Marco Iten tied for the individual crown at 9-under.
Jake Tucker hovered around par throughout the event and finished at 2-over in the final round to go 5-over for the tournament and finish in a tie for 35th place. Clayton Vannoy had his best round of the event on Tuesday as he birdied his final hole to shoot par and place 69th overall, while Tolver Dozier was 1-over on the day and finished tied for 70th.
The Trojans have one final tournament before the Sun Belt Championships and that tune up comes next week at the Reunion Intercollegiate hosted by Ole Miss.
