Men’s Golf Finishes Eighth at Sun Belt Championship

Final Results
SAUCIER, Miss. – The Troy men's golf team finished in eighth place at the Sun Belt Championship which concluded Wednesday at the Grand Bear Golf Course. The Trojans shot a 5-over 293 in the final round for their best score of the three-day event.
Tolver Dozier led Troy in the final round as he shot a 2-under 70 thanks six birdies and just a pair of bogeys. It was the best round by a Trojan golfer during the Sun Belt Championship and marked the third different Trojan to lead the team in scoring over the three rounds.
Jake Tucker was Troy's top finisher in the event as he finished in a tie for 14th place after shooting 4-over par for the 54-hole event. Tucker shot a 73 for the second straight day after opening with a 74 on Monday.
Georgia State edged out South Alabama by one shot to win the Sun Belt title while UT Arlington was just two shots back of the Panthers. Louisiana-Lafayette finished in fourth place followed by Texas State, Western Kentucky, ULM, Troy, Arkansas State and ULM. Troy finished just one shot behind ULM and three shots back of Western Kentucky.
Jared Bettcher finished strong as he shot 3-under over the final five holes of the day. He sank an eagle on the par-3 No. 5 and followed with birdies on No. 7 and No. 9. Bettcher finished in a tie for 21st followed by Dozier in a tie for 34th, Phillip Brennan in 45th and Clayton Vannoy in a tie for 48th.
Texas State's Stuart Smallwood shot 8-under over the course of the Sun Belt Championship to win the individual title by three shots over golfers from South Alabama and Georgia State.
