Men’s Golf Bounces Back on Day Two of SBC Championship

SAUCIER, Miss. – Phillip Brennan carded a 1-under 71 to lead the Troy men's golf team Tuesday on day two of the Sun Belt Conference Championship at the Grand Bear Golf Course. The Trojans are in a tie for eighth place, but find themselves just eight shots out of fourth place.
Four of Troy's five players improved their scores from a difficult opening round led by Brennan's 14-shot improvement. Brennan sank three birdies and had just a pair of bogeys during his round on Tuesday. The Trojans shot a 295 as a team – 11 shots better than the opening round – and sit 25-over par for the tournament.
Georgia State jumped UT Arlington in what appears to be a two-team race for the team championship. Georgia State will carry a two-stroke lead over UTA into Wednesday's final round, while South Alabama is eight shots back in third. Western Kentucky and Texas State are 17 shots back in a tie for fourth followed by Louisiana-Lafayette, ULM, Troy, Arkansas State and UALR.
Jake Tucker remained in contention for a top-10 finish after he carded three birdies and finished his round 1-over. Tucker is tied for 13th place after 36 holes and is just one shot out of the top 10 after he improved his day-one score by a stroke.
Jared Bettcher shaved four strokes off his opening round with a pair of birdies around three bogeys to finish 1-over on the day. Bettcher will enter the final round tied for 26th place, but finds himself just four shots out of the top 10.
Clayton Vannoy was 6-over on the day to improve by a pair of shots while Tolver Dozier finished his round 10-over.
The Sun Belt Championship wraps up Wednesday beginning at 8 a.m.
