Troy Falls in Sun Belt Quarterfinals

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Troy men's tennis dropped a 4-1 decision on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Championships at the City Park Tennis Center in New Orleans.

Troy (8-17), the tournament's fourth seed, sees its first season under head coach Scott Kidd come to an end. UT Arlington (8-12), the tournament's fifth seed, moves on to face top-seeded UL Lafayette in Saturday's quarterfinals.

The Mavericks won the doubles point against Troy with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. However, all-conference selection Gabriel Sciacca Dias tied the match at 1-1 for Troy with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Marek Pesicka.

UTA won the next three matches at No. 6, No. 5 and No. 2, in that order, to take the 4-1 win over Troy. Troy's second team all-conference selection, Daniel Bustamante, was up 6-3, 4-3 in his match at No. 4 singles.

The match was the final for four Troy seniors in Mansingh Athare, Tommy Cundy, Tadju Davies and Sami Ghorbel.
