Scott Kidd enters his fourth season as the men’s tennis head coach at Troy in 2015-16.
Kidd has seen tremendous success in his three years at the head of Troy tennis. In 2015-16, Troy had a winning record for the second season in a row after going 15-14. The season saw the continuation of success from Pablo Moreno and Giovani Samaha, who both had 18 wins each on the year.
The Trojans had a massive turnaround in the 2014-15 season going 25-7 and winning the Sun Belt Championship. He led the team to a 9-1 home record and 11-5 away record en route to being named the 2014-15 Sun Belt Men's Tennis Coach of the Year.
During his first season in 2013-14, the Trojans posted an 8-17 overall record. Individually, Gabriel Sciacca Dias and Daniel Bustemante each earned All-Sun Belt singles honors. The two were also part of a group of four Trojans that participated in the 2014 ITA Men's All-American Championships.
Kidd came to Troy after spending three seasons as the women’s tennis assistant coach at Clemson. Prior to that he had a wildly successful run as the head coach at Auburn-Montgomery.
In his three seasons at Clemson, Kidd helped the Tigers to three NCAA Tournament trips including two Sweet 16 appearances, while finishing all three seasons ranked in the Top 25 by the ITA. A well-respected recruiter and coach, his 2012 recruiting class was ranked eighth in the nation by TennisRecruiting.net.
Individually, Kidd helped Clemson’s Josipa Bek and Keri Wong to a No.1 ITA national doubles ranking in 2011 and also helped the pair to the NCAA Doubles Championship match. In his finals season, he helped Yana Koroleeva to an appearance in the NCAA Singles quarterfinals and a No.13 ranking in the final ITA national singles rankings.
Prior to his time at Clemson, Kidd spent nine years at AUM, including the final six as the women’s head coach. He also served as the men’s head coach in his final two seasons. He led the women’s program to five consecutive NAIA National Championships and also led the men’s program to an NAIA National Championship in 2010. Kidd was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year five times while at AUM.
Kidd coached 31 NAIA All-Americans in his six years as women’s head coach and 11 NAIA All-Americans in his two seasons as men’s head coach.
Prior to serving as the head coach at AUM, Kidd served as the team’s assistant coach for three seasons, helping both the men and women to NAIA National Championships in that time as well. In his three years as an assistant coach, the two programs combined for 12 NAIA All-America selections.
Before that, he served as the head coach at North Greenville in Tigerville, S.C., helping both the Crusader men’s and women’s teams to NCCAA National Championship in 2002. Kidd also served as the head coach at King College early in his career.
A native of Elba, Ala., Kidd earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Virginia Intermont College in 2001, and a bachelor’s degree in general business from Auburn University at Montgomery in 2010.
