NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Sun Belt Conference announced the seeding for this week's Sun Belt Tennis Championships on Tuesday, with the Troy women's tennis team earning a No.4 seed and the Troy men's tennis team earning a No.5 seed.
The tournament, being played at the City Park Tennis Center in New Orleans, begins with one women's match on Thursday with both of Troy's teams opening play on Friday. The tournament runs through Sunday when a men's and women's winner will be crowned and earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
The Troy women (14-7) are the No. 4 seed in the nine-team tournament and will face No. 5 Texas State at 8 a.m. on Friday. The winner will face No. 1 Georgia State, No. 8 UL Lafayette or No. 9 WKU in Saturday's semifinals.
The Trojans enter the tournament having won nine of their last 10 matches while Texas State (9-10) has lost four of five. The Trojans and Bobcats did not play each other this season.
The Troy men (8-16) are the No. 5 seed in the six-team tournament and will face No. 4 UT Arlington at 3 p.m. on Friday. The winner will face No. 1 UL Lafayette in Saturday's semifinals.
The Trojans are coming off of a win over Columbus State and are 3-3 in their last six matches. However, one of those three losses came to UT Arlington in the consolation final of the Middle Tennessee Shootout on March 30. UTA (7-12) has played just one match since that meeting, a 6-1 loss to SMU.
