Spec Towns National Team Invitational | South Alabama Invitational
TROY, Ala. – The Troy track and field team took first place in an event each at both the Spec Towns National Team Invitational in Athens, Ga., and the University of South Alabama Invitational in Mobile, Ala., on Saturday.
"South proved to be a great opportunity that numerous athletes capitalized on," said head coach Jill Lancaster. "There were several personal bests with significant improvements. Aleeah Stigarll performed well in all three of her events which bides well for racking up higher point totals in the heptathlon."
"We had some of our top athletes in Georgia and they performed as such," said coach Shawn Williams. "It was great to see Jordan and Ben duplicate their times and see them place well. Corina continues to show well for a freshman, placing third in a very class field. Across the board we produced quality marks and placed high which is what we are looking for at a meet of this caliber at this point in the season."
Jordan Landburg ran in the men's 400-meter dash in Athens, winning the event with a time of 46.88 seconds. Landburg is ranked second in the Sun Belt Conference and 26th in the NCAA in the event.
Hayes Grissom finished in the top spot in the men's javelin in Mobile with a 63.36-meter throw. Grissom is ranked second in the conference and 55th in the nation in men's javelin.
At the Spec Towns Invitational, other Trojans made high marks on Saturday, including Benjamin Martin who placed second in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 10.32 seconds and third in the men's 200-meter dash. Martin is ranked first in the 100-meter dash, and second in the 200-meter dash in the conference. He is in the NCAA standings for both as well.
Thaddeus Curtis placed second in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.54 seconds. Curtis is ranked first in the Sun Belt in the conference in the event.
Martin, Landburg, Curtis and Philip Pritchett ran in the men's 4x100 relay, placing third with a time of 40.40 seconds. After today's meet the team is currently ranked second in the conference and 44th in the NCAA.
The Trojan women competing in Athens had strong performances as well. Taylor McDonald finished third in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.52, a new season best that moved her from seventh to fourth in the Sun Belt standings.
Corina Cox, who is currently ranked second in the nation among U20 athletes, put up a 49.40-meter throw in the women's discus competition, giving her a third place finish. She is ranked second in the conference and 50th in the nation in the women's discus, as well as 14th in the conference in shot put as a result of her 13.32-meter performance on Friday.
At the USA Invitational, the women's 4x100-meter relay team of Lacey Marcus, Tiffany Slater, Adria Hill and Sierra King brought home a second place finish with a time of 47.86 seconds. This time moved them to seventh place in the conference standings.
King also ran in the women's 100-meter dash placing fourth with a 12.18 second performance. The time is a new season best that moved King into fourteenth in the Sun Belt.
Aleeah Stigarll had a solid day in a number of events. Stigarll placed sixth in the high jump with a leap of 1.59 meters and 10th in the javelin with a toss of 29.66 meters. She also placed 17th in the 800-meter run at 2:48.36.
