ESTERO, Fla. – The Troy men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday. The Trojans got singles wins from Daniel Bustamante and Pablo Moreno, but the Eagles prevailed to win their second straight match.
Troy (1-9) lost at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to drop the opening point. In singles play, Troy was just two three-set matches away from turning the tide of the match.
Bustamante won at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-3, while Moreno won at No. 5, 6-3, 6-0. The Trojans would two other singles victories to claim the team win, but FGCU (5-6) won the remainder, including two in three sets.
Sami Ghorbel lost one of the tight matches, falling at No. 2, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (10-6). Tadju Davies dropped the other, falling at No. 6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0. Complete results are below.
The Trojans return to the courts on Monday when they travel to Boca Raton, Fla., to take former Sun Belt foe Florida Atlantic and Northern Illinois.
