Men’s Tennis Snaps Skid, Splits Pair of Matches

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Troy men's tennis team split a pair matches on Monday, including a win over Florida Atlantic to snap a five-match losing streak. Troy fell to Northern Illinois early in the day, 4-2, before rebounding to defeat the Owls, 4-3.

Troy (2-10) was actually in a 2-0 hole against the former Sun Belt foe after losing the doubles point and at No. 6 singles. However, the Trojans won the next three matches before breaking a 3-3 tie at No. 5 singles to defeat Florida Atlantic (7-7).

Mansingh Athare won the clincher, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 to give Troy a victory in a close match after coming out on the losing end of so many close matches. Gabriel Sciacca Dias, Sami Ghorbel and Pablo Moreno all picked up straight wins to set up the deciding match.

Against Northern Illinois (11-4), Troy won the doubles point, but the Huskies won four of the five completed singles matches to take their fourth victory in five matches. Daniel Bustamante picked up the lone singles match for the Trojans.

Troy returns to the court on Wednesday when it travels to take on Miami. Troy returns home on Saturday to host Xavier at the Lunsford Tennis Complex at 1 pm.
