Troy Softball to Compete at UCF Knights Spring Fling

ORLANDO, Fla. – There's no rest for the Troy softball team, as the Trojans (9-10-2) head out to the UCF Knights Spring Fling for their second to last tournament of the season.

The Trojans will begin play against Bowling Green (4-8-1) on Friday morning at 10 a.m. and then play Penn at 2:30 p.m. Troy plays just one game on Saturday, at 8 a.m. against UT Martin (6-11-1) and closes out on Sunday against Western Carolina (6-11) at 8 a.m. and host UCF (12-7) at 12:30 p.m.

Troy is 1-0 all-time against Bowling Green, 0-1 against Penn and 4-0 against UT Martin. The Trojans are 4-9 against host UCF, including 2-3 in Orlando. Troy has never faced Western Carolina.

Last time out, Troy fell in a close game at Georgia Tech. Sara Mock and Jaycee Affeldt pitched well, while Ebony Wright went 3-of-4 from the plate, driving in the lone run.

The Trojans are led by Michelle Phelps with a .339 batting average. Phelps also leads the Sun Belt Conference with 22 RBIs this season.

Troy's pitching has been clicking of late, with both Mock and Affeldt ranking near the top of the league in a variety of statistical categories. Mock's 1.39 ERA is third best in the league, while Affeldt's 67 strikeouts are fourth most.
