Trojans Win Sixth Straight

MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team took a narrow, 4-3, decision over UL Lafayette on Saturday for the Trojans' sixth straight win. The match was played at South Alabama's home court in Mobile, Ala. The Trojans match with South Alabama on Friday was rained out.

Troy (11-6) dropped a tight doubles point with 8-7 losses at No. 2 and No. 3. Anja Cosovic and Trang Huynh won at No. 1 doubles for the Trojans, 8-6, for their 12th consecutive doubles win.

The top of Troy's singles lineup continued to dominate though, and the Trojans won the first four singles matches to clinch the win. Huynh started things off with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1, her sixth straight win.

Lyubov Dorofeeva also won her sixth straight, taking a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 2. Margot De Haan put the Trojans up 3-1 with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 3. That set up Anja Cosovic to clinch the match at No. 3. The sophomore won her sixth straight match with a 6-0, 7-5 win after being down 5-4 in the second set.

"ULL gets all the credit for winning the doubles point," Troy head coach Rawia Elsisi said. "Our girls bounced back in singles play and Anja did a good job clinching the match. It was critical for us to beat ULL with the conference tournament so close."

UL Lafayette (6-12) won a pair of tight matches at No. 5 and No.6, with three of the four sets between the two matches going to tiebreakers. Full results are below.

The Trojans return to the court on Wednesday when they travel to Jacksonville State.
