Trojans Fall to UAB in MT Shootout Opener

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Troy men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to UAB in the quarterfinals of the Middle Tennessee Shootout on Friday. All three of Troy's singles loss came in three sets.
The loss places Troy (5-13) in the consolation bracket where it will meet Illinois State on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Illinois State lost, 4-0, to host Middle Tennessee on Friday evening.
On Friday against UAB (10-6), Troy was down 1-0 after a doubles point loss. Daniel Bustamante evened the score for Troy with a 6-5, 6-5 win at No. 4 singles before the Blazers won three straight to take the match.
Despite the 4-1 final score, the match was much closer as UAB won all three singles matches at No. 1 , No. 2 and No. 3 in three sets. The Blazers won the first set in all three, but Troy fought back to win the second before UAB took three tight third sets.
The match was played indoors at Nashboro Village in Nashville due to rain in the area. Weather permitting, the Trojans will return to the Murfreesboro, Tenn., and the outdoors for matches on Saturday and Sunday.
