Trojans Win at Middle Tennessee
3/23/2014 3:38:00 PM | Tennis (W)
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Troy women's tennis team won its fourth straight match on Sunday, defeating former Sun Belt rival Middle Tennessee, 5-2, on the road.
Troy (9-6) has now won seven of its last eight matches, with this win avenging a loss to the Blue Radiers in the quarterfinals of last season's Sun Belt Championships
The Trojans won two of three doubles matches to take the opening point. Trang Huynh and Anja Cosovic, at No. 1, won their 10th straight doubles decision and are now 11-2 on the season.
Lyubov Dorofeeva and Brooke Durden fought back from down 6-5 to win 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and clinch the point for the Trojans.
"Fighting back in doubles the way we did was critical," Troy head coach Rawia Elsisi said. "The girls were fired up in singles play on each court and pulled out a good win.Â
"Middle Tennessee was stronger this year and had a few new players in their lineup, but our girls wanted this win, especially after lost season's conference tournament loss."
The top of the singles lineup was then dominant. Huynh won her fourth straight match at No. 1, again in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. After Middle Tennessee (7-6) won at No. 5, Dorofeeva took a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 2 for her fifth straight singles win.
Cosovic then clinched the match for the Trojans with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 3, marking her fourth straight win and moving the sophomore to 12-2 in singles play this spring.
Durden also won for the Trojans at No. 6, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6), to make the final 5-2 scored. Full results are below.
The Trojans return to the court on Tuesday when they host Florida A&M at the Lunsford Tennis Complex at 2 p.m. The match will be the final home match of the season and the Trojans will honor their lone senior, Dorofeeva, before the match.
