Trojans Begin SBC Play at Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Early season tournaments are over, as the Troy softball team heads to Western Kentucky to kick off Sun Belt Conference play. The Trojans will face the Hilltoppers twice on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m., and once on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Troy (14-15-2) is coming off of a tough week that saw them finish 1-4. The Trojans faced some tough competition on the week, with three games against ranked opponents. Amanda Winters was the top performer on the weekend, finishing the Chanticleer Showdown with a .500 batting average and two home runs.

Ebony Wright leads the team in batting this season at .361. Winters and Michelle Phelps are tied for the team lead with four home runs, while Phelps leads the squad with 23 RBIs. Jayce Affeldt has been the leader in the circle, posting a 2.34 ERA with 98 strikeouts so far this season.

Western Kentucky (16-10-1) dropped a pair of games to Louisville on Wednesday and has lost 4-of-5 overall. The Hilltoppers are led by Olivia Watkins with a .473 batting average. Amanda Thomas is second on the team with two home runs and leads the squad with 23 RBIs. Emily Rousseau and Hannah Miniard have been tremendous in the circle, with each posting an ERA of 2.53.

Troy is 18-11 all-time against Western Kentucky, but lost all three meetings last season.
