CONWAY, S.C. – Troy softball (14-15-2) fell to No. 18/21 Minnesota (21-3), 4-2, to close out the Chanticleer Showdown, hosted by Coastal Carolina. For her efforts on the weekend, Amanda Winters was named to the all-tournament team.

Winters was solid for the Trojans yet again, hitting her second home run of the weekend and finishing 2-of-3 at the plate.

Ashley Rainey pitched well, allowing six hits and three runs over 4.1 innings to one of the top teams in the country. Jaycee Affeldt came in in relief and struck out two in 1.2 innings of work, allowing just one hit and one run.

Troy got on the board first, plating one in the fifth. Winters led off with a double and was pinch-run for by Leah Brundidge. Brundidge would then come around to score following a single by Taylor Smartt.

Minnesota would do the majority of its damage in the bottom half of the fifth, scoring three runs. The Golden Gophers would add one more in the sixth on a solo home run.

Troy would cut the lead to just two in the seventh on a solo shot by Winters, her second of the weekend.

Winters hit .500 at the Showdown, including a pair of home runs. She finished the weekend with two RBIs, three runs scored and five total hits, while posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

The Trojans open up Sun Belt play next weekend with a trip to Bowling Green, Ky., to take on Western Kentucky.
