Trojans Hit the Road for USF Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. – The Troy University track and field team gets back on the road to take part in the USF Invitational, beginning on Thursday, March 13, at the USF Track and Field Complex.

"We are expecting to build off our team opener last week," said head coach Jill Lancaster. "There were so many great performances at South Alabama last Friday. The experience of the men's side showed and the youthfulness of the women's team provides a great opportunity to build on both teams' past successes.

Troy will compete against 23 other teams at the event, including several of the best in the region.

The Trojans opened up competition last weekend at the Jaguar Opener with several quality performances. The men placed second overall, just two points behind host South Alabama for first. The women took fourth.

Many Trojans took home individual wins on the day. Julia Ostendorf won the 3000-meter run, while Corina Cox won the discus. Benjamin Martin, Jordan Landburg and Lance Holley took the top three spots in the 100-meter dash, while Thaddeus Curtis won the 110-meter hurdles.

"The event fields are larger and more talented than we faced last weekend and we look forward to the challenge," Lancaster continued. "We practiced at USF today, the facility is beautiful with great field event venues and the track is very fast. We look forward to the throwers kicking off the competition in high fashion tomorrow."
