BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Troy women's tennis team was in a 3-1 hole, but never gave in on its way to a 4-3 win over Florida Atlantic on Tuesday afternoon. Troy has now won five of its last seven matches.
Trang Huynh and Anja Cosovic won their seventh straight doubles match as they cruised, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles. However, Florida Atlantic won the two remaining doubles matches, including at No. 2 in a tiebreak.
Huynh won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to get Troy (6-6) on the board, but the Owls then won at No. 4 and No. 6 to take a 3-1 lead. With Florida Atlantic (5-7) on the verge of a win, Troy fought back.
"The team fought very hard in singles," Troy head coach Rawia Elsisi said. "They all played with a lot of confidence and battled for more than two hours after being down 3-1."
Lyubov Dorofeeva started the comeback with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles. Margot De Haan then won at No. 5, 6-4, 6-3, to tie the score at 3-3, putting the match in the hands of one of Troy's most consistent players in Cosovic.
Cosovic, playing at No. 3 singles, fought through the only three-set match of the day and won, 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, to clinch the win for the Trojans. Cosovic is now 9-2 in singles play this season.
The Trojans return to the courts on Thursday when they take on Boston University in Boca Raton, Fla.
