TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team snapped its losing skid with a 6-1 win over Jackson State in the Trojans' home opener at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Saturday.
Troy (2-4) dominated the match, with Jackson State's only point coming due to a Troy injury. The win for Troy snapped a four-match losing streak that included three road losses to ranked opponents.
"The girls were excited to be at home competing," Troy head coach Rawia Elsisi said. Â "They all played with a lot of confidence, started strong in doubles and finished singles all in straight sets. Â Overall it was a great team performance in their first home match."
The Trojans got wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the opening point. Anja Cosovic and Trang Huynh won at No. 1, 8-2, while Lyubov Dorofeeva and Brooke Durden won at No. 2, 8-1.
Jackson State (0-7) got its lone point at No. 4 singles where Troy's Monica Gonzalez was forced to retire just three games into the match. Troy went on to win the remaining five singles matches, all in straight sets.
Huynh got the first result with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Cosovic picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 to give Troy a 3-1 lead in the match. Dorofeeva clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 1 singles.
Durden won at No. 6 for Troy, 6-2, 6-4, while Margot De Haan was the final Trojan off the court with a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.
