Offense Meets Defense as Trojans Host UALR on Wednesday

TROY, Ala. – The Sun Belt's top offense and top defense will square off on Wednesday when the Troy women's basketball team hosts UALR at 7 p.m. at Trojan Arena.<br />

Troy (10-15, 6-8) has won six of its last nine games after starting Sun Belt play 0-5. The Trojans and their top-ranked offense currently sit in sixth place in the Sun Belt standings. Troy is a half game up on UL Lafayette and a full game ahead of South Alabama and UL Monroe. Only three of the four will advance to the Sun Belt Championships.<br />

The Trojans are coming off of an 86-76 win at South Alabama on Saturday. Troy forced 23 South Alabama turnovers in that contest and outscored the Jaguars in points off turnovers, 29-4.<br />
<br />
Troy leads the Sun Belt in scoring and ranks 19th in the nation at 80.2 points per game. Troy has scored 80-plus 12 times this season. The Trojans also lead the league in rebounding (44.0), blocks (4.4) and steals (10.3).<br />
<br />
The Trojans are led by All-America candidate Joanna Harden who leads the Sun Belt and ranks fifth in the NCAA in scoring at 25.4 points per game. Harden scored 26 points at South Alabama and broke Troy's single-season scoring record that had stood since 1989-90.<br />
<br />
The Pompano Beach, Fla., native was named a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award on Monday (top NCAA point guard) and has scored 20-plus points 21 times this season, including in 11 straight games. Harden's season scoring average would be the best in the school history and make her just the fifth player in Sun Belt history to average 25-plus in a season.<br />
<br />
UALR (14-10, 9-5) has won four straight games and gives up a Sun Belt low 57.2 points per game, the 18th best mark in the nation. The Trojans are coming off of a 69-60 win over UT Arlington on Saturday. Wednesday's game is the final on the road for UALR who closes with three straight at home where it is 10-1 this season.<br />

Troy has never beaten UALR in 12 previous tries, including an 0-5 mark at home. Wednesday's meeting will be the fifth against UALR for Troy under head coach Chanda Rigby. <br />
<br />
It will also be the fifth straight between the two that puts the league's top scoring offense against the league's best scoring defense. In the previous four meetings, the defense has prevailed as Troy hasn't scored more than 52 points.<br />
<br />
UALR won this season's first meeting, 69-52, at the Jack Stephens Center in early January. Troy, who was in the midst of an eight-game losing streak at the time, shot just 31 percent in that game.<br />
