Cross Country Travels to Sun Belt Championships

MOBILE, Alabama – Troy is set to compete in the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships on Sunday, November 2, in Mobile, Ala., at the USS Alabama Memorial Park. The women's 5k race will begin at 10 a.m., while the men's 8k is slated to begin at 11 a.m.

The race is poised to be extremely competitive, with several top-ranked teams in the mix. On the men's side the hosting squad, South Alabama, ranked ninth in the USTFCCCA's South Region rankings. UT Arlington enters the race as the 13th ranked team in the South Central Region. Appalachian State adds to the mix of ranked opponents at 13th in the most recent USTFCCCA Southeast Regional poll.

Set to compete for the Trojans are Timothy Bulger, Joe Giese, Sent Kent, Cameron McCutcheon, Dylan Ogburn and Eric Schueller. The young group is comprised of two sophomores and four freshmen. In August, Ogburn, Giese and McCutcheon paced the team in their very first race at the USS Alabama Memorial Park course.

For the women, Arkansas State, the defending Sun Belt champions, currently are at 10th in the USTFCCCA South Central Region rankings. They have appeared in every poll this season with a high mark of eighth. UT Arlington is in ninth in the same rankings after finishing the Pre-National Invitational in front of Arkansas State. UALR is also ranked at 11th in the South Central Region Rankings. Appalachian State jumped into the rankings this past week at 15th in the Southeast Region.

Set to compete for Troy on the women's side are Katrina Bokenfohr, Mikayla Hodges, Marsel Mosley, Julia Ostendorf, Samantha Smith and Sarah Zylstra. Ostendorf recently set a new personal best at the JSU Foothills Invitational 5k with a time of 18:40.68.
