Troy Soccer Prepares for Tough Road Swing

TROY, Alabama – The Troy University soccer team has enjoyed record-breaking success at home this season. The team has won all seven home games in the current campaign and is victorious in its last 10 at the Troy Soccer Complex dating back to 2013.
On Friday, the Trojans will travel to Boone, North Carolina to face Sun Belt Conference newcomer Appalachian State at 6 p.m. (CT) before making the trek to San Marcos, Texas for a Sunday matchup with Texas State at 1 p.m. Links to live stats for both games as well as live video of the Texas State game will be available on TroyTrojans.com.
Troy (10-3, 2-1 Sun Belt) enters Friday's match against Appalachian State winners of 10 of its last 11 games. On Tuesday, sophomore forward Abby Reynolds and freshman goalkeeper Mikki Lewis were honored for their efforts. Reynolds was named Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week following her three-goal week. She scored the game-winner in both of the Trojans victories over the weekend. Lewis earned Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week honors after earning a shutout in each game. Troy enters the weekend with a .538 shutout percentage, which is tied for tops in the Sun Belt Conference and ranks 29th in the NCAA. Lewis' goals-against average of .921 is second best in the league.
Louise Cheng scored her first goal of the season against UL Lafayette – a driven effort off a free kick that found the bottom corner of the net.
Team leaders Alissa Jones and Annabell Simpson added to their assist total with each player earning their sixth assist over the weekend. Jones also leads the squad with eight goals, including five game-winners which ranks fourth nationally. Jones' 22 points on the year stands 20th in the NCAA.
Appalachian State (5-7, 2-1) is coming off a 2-1 loss in overtime to Texas State on the road. Junior Sam Childress leads the Mountaineers with four goals on the year; she recorded a hat trick against Liberty earlier in the season. Friday marks the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Texas State (8-3-1, 3-0) has knocked off App State, Arkansas State and UALR in conference play and enters the weekend winners of four of its last five games. Goalkeeper Caitlynn Rinehart leads the conference in goals-against average at .821, while Lynsey Curry and Tori Hale pace the squad with four goals each. Texas State leads the all-time series over the Trojans 2-0. The Bobcats knocked Troy out of the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Tournament with a 2-1 decision in overtime.
