Men’s Golf Finishes Second at The Intercollegiate

TROY, Alabama – Paced by a top five performance from Jared Bettcher, the Troy men's golf team finished second at The Intercollegiate at The Grove Club as play concluded Tuesday.
The Trojans, who entered the day with a four shot lead, shot a 299 during Tuesday's final round led by Bettcher's even-par round. No. 39 Ohio State shot a 7-under 281 to leap Troy on the leaderboard and win the team title. Troy wrapped up the fall season with a 37-9 record and picked up its second victory of the season against No. 50 GRU Augusta.
Troy and GRU Augusta were locked into a neck-and-neck battle for second place over the final three holes. With the teams virtually deadlocked, Phillip Brennan went 3-under over the final three holes to push the Trojans past the Jaguars into second place. Brennan, who shot a 75 for the day and tied for 28th overall, eagled the par 4 No. 16 and birdied on No. 18.
Bettcher also had a big finish for the Trojans as he birdied No. 18 to cap a back nine that featured four birdies as he played the final nine holes at 1-under. Bettcher tied for fifth place overall for his second top 10 and third top 25 performance in four fall tournaments.
Tolver Dozier closed out his tournament with a 4-over 76 on Tuesday after a birdie around five bogeys. He finished in 14th place after shooting a 222 for the tournament, while Luke Moser tied for 15th place after he finished with a 223 following a 76 on Tuesday. Jake Tucker tied for 18th place overall after he carded a 79 in the final round.
The Trojans carded a remarkable six eagles over the course of the tournament; the next closest team had just two. Troy tied with Ohio State for the most birdies in the field with 42, while Trojans led the field playing the par 5s at -18 for the tournament.
Troy opens the spring portion of its schedule at the Bayou City Classic in Humble, Texas, on Feb. 20-22.
