Troy Wraps Up Play at Big Easy Classic

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – The Troy men's and women's tennis teams wrapped up play at the Big Easy Tennis Classic, host by New Orleans, on Saturday.  The Troy men won a doubles flight, a singles flight and all three consolation singles flights to close the tournament.Â

For the Troy men, Giovani Samaha and Pablo Moreno won three doubles matches on Saturday to take the doubles flight. The pair beat teams from Southern Miss in the quarterfinals and semifinals, then knocked off Rui Silva and Blake Gregor of New Orleans in the finals, 8-2.

Samaha also picked up two singles wins as he won the first singles flight. The junior defeated Wen-Po Tseng of Southern Miss in the semifinals, then took down New Orleans' Timo Kranz in the finals, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).

Also in the first singles flight, Daniel Bustamante won the consolation draw with wins over players from Jackson State and UL Lafayette. Andre Baldo also won a consolation draw, this one in the second singles flight, as he beat players from Loyola (N.O.) and Jackson State.

True freshman Austin Racine won the consolation draw on the third singles flight, winning three matches on the day.

For the Troy women, Sanae Ohta was the only Trojan in action as she lost to West Virginia's Lyu Yuen Choo in the semifinals of the first singles flight, 7-5, 6-4.

Complete results from all of Troy's matches on Saturday are below. The Troy women return to the court next weekend when they travel to Alabama for the Roberta Allison Fall Invitational. The Troy men are off next weekend.
