Trojans Combine for 14 Wins to Open Big Easy Classic

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – The Troy men's and women's tennis teams combined to win 14 matches on the opening day of the Big East Tennis Classic, hosted by New Orleans, on Friday. Six different Troy men and four different Troy women were in action.

For the Troy men, Giovani Samaha is into Saturday's semifinals after a quarterfinal win over New Orleans' Rui Silva, 7-5, 6-4. Pablo Moreno is into Saturday's semifinal in the second singles flight after a quarterfinal win over Coleman Wahlberg of UL Lafayette, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6). In doubles play, the Trojans have a pair of teams that will play in Saturday's quarterfinals.

For the Troy women, Sanae Ohta continued her great fall season as she advance to the flight one semifinals with a quarterfinal win over Southeastern Louisiana's Margaux Kaltenbacher, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5). Julia Albuquerque won two matches on the day in the third singles flight, but fell to West Virginia's Carolina Lewis in the quarterfinals.
